He is an expert in corporate governance matters, particularly concerning the audit committee. He is a member of the audit committee of Kimberly Clark de Mexico (Chairman), Grupo México, and Southern Copper.

He serves as the Executive Secretary of the Mexican Business Council (2004 to present) and is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Mexico Fund.

He was the Ambassador of Mexico to Canada (1987-1989) and the CEO of Teléfonos de México (1975-1987).

He holds a law degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, with honors.

He is proficient in Spanish and English languages.

Emilio Carrillo Peñafiel

Emilio is an attorney specialized in financing and M&A transactions; he frequently supports clients involved in the financial, real estate, energy and infrastructure sectors.

He has participated in transactions involving over US$8 billion, including several securities issuances.

Prior to the Firm, he was a Principal in the Deregulation Office of the Mexican Government (1994-1996), where he intervened in the negotiation of several regulations including the Natural Gas Rulings, the Federal Telecommunications Law, the new Bankruptcy Law and the Administrative Procedural Law.

Before that experience, he was legal advisor to the Mexican Government in the NAFTA Negotiations Office(1990-1992), in both the Financial Services and Safeguards chapters.

Emilio has an MBA (Kellogg, Northwestern University, 1994 - Dean's List). He is an attorney at law (UNAM,1992 - with honors) and a Public Accountant (ITAM, 1990). He is fluent in both English and Spanish.

He has been recognized by Chambers & Partners ("General Corporate, MSA" (2014-2019)), by "Mexico's Best Lawyers" (2018, 2021) and by "Best Lawyers" (2019-2022).
